Cub Scouting is open to all boys ages 6 through 10 (or in grades K through 5). The Cub Scout pack serves all boys in that age range and is broken down into dens by grade level:
Grade K: Lion Cubs
Grade 1: Tiger Cubs
Grade 2: Wolves
Grade 3: Bears
Grade 4 and 5: Webelos Scouts
In Pack 317, dens usually meet twice a month, while the pack meets once a month. Meetings are held Wednesday nights at 6 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist (although dens may choose to meet elsewhere).
In Lion (kindergarten) Tiger Cubs (first grade), a parent must accompany each Scout to meetings and activities. The older dens don't require a one-to-one ratio but it is strongly suggested that parents of 2nd and 3rd graders remain with their children at den meetings.
The Cub Scout pack is entirely volunteer run. We rely on parents to volunteer in either large roles (den leader, Cubmaster, etc.) or small roles (pinewood derby judge, blue and gold banquet coordinator, etc.) Training is available and can be completed online or in the classroom.
The Cub Scout year mirrors the school year, and most boys join in August. However, boys can join at any time and at any age.
